Honor for firefighter

Recently we had two events, Tip a Firefighter and a fundraiser for our dear firefighter Matthias Wirtz who died in the line of duty on Dec. 26. Several hundred people attended both events.

I would like to thank both restaurants owners and staff for all their hard work and generosity. J Roos (Sal, Ginny, Jason, Adam and Ashley Mazzaro), 243 State Street, North Haven and La Lupa (Aturo Frali, and Valentino Starkaj), 344 Washington Avenue, North Haven. A special thanks to the North Haven volunteer firefighters for their help and attendance. A big thank you to the New Haven County Emerald Society Pipes and Drum, (of which Matt was a member) for their time and an extremely emotional presentation for their fallen firefighter and family. Last but not least, a great big thank you to the North Haven Professional Firefighters Local 2987 for all their hard work, passion and love.

Most of the Republican Town Committee attended and contributed to both events; including First Selectman Michael Freda, the Republican town chair, fire commissioners, police commissioners. Board of Finance members, state representative and state senator and many others.

On the other hand, shame on the North Haven Democratic Town Committee. No attendance and no contribution whatsoever to either event. Blatant disrespect for not attending or supporting the Wirtz family and the entire North Haven Fire Department. Sorry to say once again as always, the Democratic Town Committee does not support the North Haven Fire Department. Shame on you.
