Twice as much cannabis sold in CT than 6 months ago
The total number of recreational cannabis products sold in Connecticut hit a new high in May, according to state data.
There were 292,054 recreational cannabis products sold in Connecticut over the course of May, an increase of 32,555 over April, according to data from the state Department of Consumer Protection.
That’s a significant increase from the 114,459 recreational cannabis products sold in the state when the market opened in January.
The dollar amount associated with those sales has also increased. In all, Connecticut cannabis retailers sold $11.5 million worth of recreational products in May, compared to $10.2 million in April.
That’s more than double the $5.1 million worth of sales in January.
Though the number of recreational products sold has increased month over month, the average price of cannabis in Connecticut remained largely stable in May, after decreasing every month since legal recreational sales began.
The average price of individual recreational cannabis products in Connecticut was $39.47 in May, flat compared to the average of $39.58 in April.
The cost of recreational cannabis in Connecticut decreased every month since recreational sales began in January. When the state’s recreational market opened, the average price of an individual cannabis product sold in the state was $44.61.
In contrast, the average price of medical cannabis has stayed flat, $35.86 in May compared to $35.68 in January.
Medical cannabis sales have decreased from 314,985 total products sold in April to 312,758 in May.
The number of registered medical cannabis patients has also steadily decreased since recreational cannabis sales began. There were 44,508 registered patients in May, down from 48,896 in January.
