Twice as much cannabis sold in CT than 6 months ago

The total number of recreation­al cannabis products sold in Connecticu­t hit a new high in May, according to state data.

There were 292,054 recreation­al cannabis products sold in Connecticu­t over the course of May, an increase of 32,555 over April, according to data from the state Department of Consumer Protection.

That’s a significan­t increase from the 114,459 recreation­al cannabis products sold in the state when the market opened in January.

The dollar amount associated with those sales has also increased. In all, Connecticu­t cannabis retailers sold $11.5 million worth of recreation­al products in May, compared to $10.2 million in April.

That’s more than double the $5.1 million worth of sales in January.

Though the number of recreation­al products sold has increased month over month, the average price of cannabis in Connecticu­t remained largely stable in May, after decreasing every month since legal recreation­al sales began.

The average price of individual recreation­al cannabis products in Connecticu­t was $39.47 in May, flat compared to the average of $39.58 in April.

The cost of recreation­al cannabis in Connecticu­t decreased every month since recreation­al sales began in January. When the state’s recreation­al market opened, the average price of an individual cannabis product sold in the state was $44.61.

In contrast, the average price of medical cannabis has stayed flat, $35.86 in May compared to $35.68 in January.

Medical cannabis sales have decreased from 314,985 total products sold in April to 312,758 in May.

The number of registered medical cannabis patients has also steadily decreased since recreation­al cannabis sales began. There were 44,508 registered patients in May, down from 48,896 in January.
