Paulina Ortíz de Jesús, 98, of Hamden, CT, formerly of New Haven, CT, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Gilberto de Jesús. Paulina was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico on July 2, 1924, a daughter of the late Savero Ortíz and the late Gumercinda Robles. She moved to New Haven in 1950 and resided there for seventy-three years before moving to Hamden two months ago.
She is survived by a sister, Carmela Ortíz of New York City, twenty-two grandchildren including her special granddaughter Mirta Pullen of Hamden, thirty-three great-grandchildren, thirtytwo great-great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family members and friends.
She was predeceased by four sons, José Santiago,
Sr., Ricardo Santiago, Sr., Evangelista Santiago and Wilfredo Santiago, a daughter, Rose Marie Santiago, two sisters, Primitiva and Aurora Ortíz, five brothers, Juan, Arturo, Jorge, Nicolas and José Antonio Ortíz, four grandchildren, Ricardo Santiago, Jr., José Santiago, Jr., Edwin Santiago and Jodi
Russell Santiago, and one great-grandson, Edmund Jackson, Jr.
Paulina’s family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, June 15th from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. Her funeral cortege will depart the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. in St. Martin de Porres Church, 136 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com
