Walter Belske, age 91, of Shelton, formerly of Seymour, the beloved husband of Anne (Barrett) Belske of Shelton, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Sunday, September 24,2023 at Lord Chamberlai­n Nursing and Rehabilita­tion Center, Stratford.

Born on October 19, 1931 in Ansonia, Connecticu­t, son of Walter C. and Helen Kardas Belske. He graduated from Ansonia High School in 1949.

An accomplish­ed Basketball and Baseball athlete in high school, he continued to play at Fordham University through a baseball scholarshi­p. During the summers he played summer ball throughout the East. He was signed by his chosen Yankees in 1951, after receiving offers from multiple major league teams. He played for two years in the Yankee’s farm system. During that time, he played with and against legends Whitey

Ford, Tommy Holmes, Yogi Berra and Phil Rizzuto. Due to an arm injury, he was unable to continue. He loved to tell stories of all the ballplayer­s that he played with at that time. He worked many years in the Valley at various grocery stores including Pegnataro’s, Klarides and Adams. Walter loved to be with his family and friends and will forever remain in our hearts.

He married Anne Barrett in 1953. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three daughters, Louise McMinn, Kathleen ( Jack) Rup, and Carol (Berney) Golden and his two sons, Walter and Jim Belske.

He also has eight grandchild­ren, Greg (Miranda) and Christophe­r (Deanna)

Belske, Kari (Chris Barr) McMinn, Kylie (Brock) Sheehan, John (Britney) Rup and Sarah Rup, and Brianna and Jeremy Golden. He has five great-grandchild­ren, Lydia and Jacob Belske, Lyla and Wyatt Sheehan, and William Rup.

2023 at The Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street (RT. 67, across from Klarides Village) Seymour from 9:00a.m. until 10:30a.m. A Funeral Service in Celebratio­n of Walter’s life will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of The Miller-Ward Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at

St. Augustine Church of St. Nicholas Parish, 35 Washington Ave., Seymour. Interment will be held privately at Mt. St. Peter Cemetery, Derby, CT in the family plot.
