“Philip” Ngoc D. Duong

-

Philip” Ngoc Duong was born on February 10,1947 in Nha Trang, Vietnam. He attended military academy and in his 20’s, rose to the rank of Captain in the South Vietnamese Air Force, where he excelled as an elite fighter pilot during the Vietnam War. Philip was renowned for his exceptional grit and courage. He came to the United States after surviving 11 years in a labor camp as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam.

In the US, he earned an advanced degree in horticulture & landscape design. For over 20 years, Philip was the ever-present, ever-helpful building supervisor at the Sherman Medical Building in New Haven, CT, where he was beloved and respected for his dedication to his job, and for his kind and generous nature. In his spare time, Philip started his own business “Phil’s Landscaping.” He spent many years nurturing beautiful gardens for a myriad of loyal clients and friends all over Connecticut.

Philip is survived by Bach Nguyen, his life partner of over 20 years. He devoted his life to taking care of Bach and to being a loving father figure to Bach’s daughters (Tien, Nhu, Ly) and granddaughter (Leela).

Philip had a way of finding joy in life’s simple moments and endearing himself to anyone who was fortunate enough to feel the warmth of his larger-thanlife spirit.
