Mario Mastroianni

-

Mario Mastroianni entered eternal life on Dec.10, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Francesca (Camputaro) Mastroianni. Father of Felicia (Ralph) Apuzzo, and Anthony (late Ellen) Mastroianni. Brother of the late Raffaella Matarazzo, Antonio, Palmina, Augusto, and Placido Mastroianni. Loving “Nonno” of Antonio (Taylor) Mastroianni, Dan Mastroianni, and Marissa Mastroianni. Great “Nonno” of Isabella, Jackson, Oliver, and Elliana Mastroianni.

Mario was born in Amorosi, Provincia di Benevento, Italy on August 5, 1930, son of the late Giovanni and Felicia Resso Benevento. He immigrated to the United States at the young age of 18 all by himself. He worked for over 50 years at Plasticrete Corporation Block and Supply. He would make many things out of concrete and share them with friends and family. At his incredibly well-maintained home in Hamden where he lived for over 64 years, you can find bird baths, benches, flowerpots all made by Mario’s skilled hands in concrete.

Mario (Nonno) was always tending to his garden.

When you didn’t find him pulling weeds, you would see him cleaning or baking friselles or even making his famous home-made wine.

In his later years he was a devoted caretaker to his beautiful wife of more than 63 years Francesca Mastroianni. He would tend to her every need and put her first always. He was a model of what every husband should strive to be.

He was an avid Boston Bruins fan and watched nearly every game for decades. Being from Italy he also enjoyed football and the Italia team. He found the most joy spending quality time with his family and sharing his life experience with his cherished grandchildren. His latest joy was in seeing his great grandchildren. He would light up when they entered the room. It was truly heartwarming to see.

Mario was an incredibly strong willed and determined person. His work ethic was truly unmatched, and he set an example for everyone he came across throughout his long life.

The family extends a special thanks to his aid Melissa and the Franciscan Hospice Homecare.
