Barbara H. O’Connor

Barbara H. O’Connor, 88, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2024 at CT Hospice. She was predeceased by her loving husband, William O’Connor. Barbara was born in New Haven on June 7, 1935, to the late George and Marguerite Lynch Hill. After spending most of her life in West Haven, she moved to Hamden in 2019.

Barbara is survived by her sister, Margery ( Jack) Caldwell; nephews, Kenneth Flynn (Kay) and David O’Connor (Mona); nieces, Patricia Garcia ( John), Maureen Furtak (Robert) and Lauren Carey (Tom); best friends and neighbors of 45 years, Marion and Bill Black and Teri Aquino.

She graduated from Quinnipiac University with a Masters in Allied Health Sciences. As a Medical Technologist with a Specialist in Hematology, she worked at Yale School of Medical Technology in the hematology laboratory for over 38 years until her retirement.

She was an active member and past president of the West Haven and Milford Garden Clubs. Barbara was a Master Flower Show Judge Emeritus, served on the Board of the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, was a State Program Chairman, and State Yearbook Chairman.

Barbara and Bill had fond memories of their many adventures: a houseboating trip with eighteen friends, Ireland to watch friends run in the Irish marathon, many of the Western National Parks, the Canadian Rockies, and Italy.

Friends are invited to visit with her family on Thursday, February 29th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. A Funeral Service celebrating her life will take place at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by her entombment in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
