It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peter A. Vitagliano beloved, son, brother and uncle who departed this world March 4, 2024. He was born on December 7, 1961 to Gennaro “Jerry” Vitagliano and Palmina (Manna) Vitagliano in New Haven. He graduated from High School in the Community. In his senior year Pete was awarded New Haven Register Youth of the Year for his achievemen­ts in project-based learning and teamwork. While attending University of New Haven, he worked in the family business. He worked for Metro-North Railroad for 22 years retiring as a conductor. Pete loved to read, he loved music and tried all his days to play his Fender Jazz bass in the manner of Jaco Pastorious. Pete loved good food and drink and the company of his friends at the bar. He approached every challenge in his own unique way. His charismati­c nature resonates with all that knew him and despite his penchant for breaking the rules he was beloved for his humor, generosity, and occasional acts of kindness. He is predecease­d by his father Gennaro, and brother Gerald. He is survived by his mother Palmina, sisters Barbara and Susan, sisterin-law Susan, brother Gary, nieces Sara Jay and Abigail, nephews Christophe­r, Edward and Michael, cousins, and friends. His wake is at East Haven Memorial Funeral Home on March 10th 4 p.m.-6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial Monday, March 11th at 12 p.m.at St. Bernadette’s Church, 385 Townsend Ave., New Haven, CT 06512 and burial immediatel­y afterwards at St. Lawrence Cemetery, 280 Derby Ave., West Haven, CT 06516.
