Eleanor (O’Connell) Sullivan, beloved wife, aunt and friend to many, formerly of Killingwor­th, Salem, and Guilford, CT, and the Villages, FL, passed away at age 79. Eleanor, loving wife and cherished aunt, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2024. She was surrounded by her family and friends, who will forever remember her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love. Born on February 25, 1945, in New Haven, CT, Eleanor was the daughter of Agnes and Jeremiah O’Connell. She grew up in New Haven, CT. There she met the love of her life, Richard Sullivan. Their love story was one of devotion and companions­hip and they shared many wonderful years together until his passing in 2012. Despite the loss, Eleanor continued to honor his memory and carried his love with her every day. Eleanor was predecease­d by her parents, Agnes and Jeremiah, and her beloved siblings, John ( Jack) O’Connell of Stonington, CT, Maureen Tierney of Guilford, CT, Agnes (Bunky) Venice of Bayside, NY, Brother Kevin O’Connell, O.P, of Providence, RI, Robert (Bobby) O’Connell of New Haven, CT, Karen McHugh of Guilford, CT, and Lt. James O’Connell of New Haven, CT, brotherin-law Gary Sullivan, North Branford/Salem, CT, sisterin-law, Irene Sullivan Eagan, Wells, ME. She is survived by her brother-in-law Frank Venice, of Manchester, CT, and sisters-in-law, Jean O’Connell, of VA, and Linda Olson of East Bethel, ME. Family was paramount to Eleanor, and she took great joy in her role as an aunt. She was adored by her many nieces and nephews, whom she showered with affection and wisdom. Nothing brought her more joy than to be surrounded by her family and friends at her lake house in Salem, CT. Eleanor was a constant source of comfort and guidance to them, always offering a listening ear and a shoulder to lean on. Eleanor will be deeply missed by her many nieces and nephews, as well as her extended family and friends. Her legacy of love, compassion, and resilience will continue to inspire all who knew her. Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St., Guilford on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Nut Plains Cemetery, 420 Nut Plains Rd, Guilford.
