Police: West Hartford man, son charged in TD Bank robbery
WALLINGFORD — Police have charged a father and son in the robbery of a local bank last week, in which a man allegedly approached a teller and handed them a note demanding cash.
The robber fled the scene in a Honda Civic and it was believed an accomplice was in the car, police said at the time.
Wallingford police on Tuesday arrested 28-yearold New Britain resident Matthew Kevorkian and his father, 68-year-old Mark Kevorkian, of West Hartford. Each is charged with second-degree robbery and fourth-degree larceny, as well as conspiring to commit both offenses.
Police had been called to the TD Bank on North Colony Road at around 12:30 p.m. March 27. “Staff at the bank reported the male suspect passed a note to a bank teller demanding cash, and said he left the bank and entered a dark colored Honda Civic,” police said. “Staff at the bank said he made off with an undetermined amount of cash and that no weapon was used during the theft.”
Police investigated and determined a second suspect had been in the getaway car.
Shortly atter the robbery, Newington police spotted the Honda Civic in that town and used “stop sticks” to try to stop the vehicle, Wallingford police said. But the vehicle fled and was later found at a JC Penny in Manchester.
“Wallingford Detectives worked with numerous other law enforcement agencies and quickly identified Matthew and Mark Kevorkian as the suspects,” Wallingford police said in a news release. The detectives obtained arrest warrants for the two men, and arrested them in New Britain Tuesday.
Mark Kevorkian was held in lieu of a $50,000 bond and was to be arraigned Wednesday at state Superior Court in Meriden, police said, while Matthew Kevorkian is free on a $50,000 bond and is due to be arraigned April 16.
