James “Jim” Federico

-

On April 8, 2024, James “Jim” Federico, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at home surrounded by his family.

Jim was born on January 18, 1936, in New Haven to Rose and Lorenzo Federico, and grew up in Allingtown, West Haven. He met the love of his life, Nancy, through Jukebox Saturday Night, in 1955. They married three years later, and their 67 years together served as a model of love and commitment to all.

Jim had an incredible work ethic. He was a skilled carpenter for over 60 years and took great pride in his craft. Beyond jobsites, Jim loved fixing things around his own house and his children’s houses, never wanting to call in a professional. He spent much of his time tinkering in his downstairs workshop, which was meticulously organized (according to him).

Jim enjoyed the outdoors. Never taking too much time to rest, he spent his days caring for his lawn and growing tomato and basil plants. He often lent his tools and expertise to friends and neighbors who needed a hand.

Jim was a regular at St. Agnes 7:30 Sunday Mass. He enjoyed his time with Father Callahan and the St. Agnes community. He was an invaluable behind the scenes helper at Bible School, CCD and Midnight Run. He also volunteered for Relay for

Life for over 10 years and looked forward to the annual event.

Above all, Jim valued his family. Together with Nancy, they hosted Sunday dinners and family trips to Disney World. For numerous years, Jim dressed as Santa Claus as he and Nancy welcomed friends and family into their home to celebrate Christmas Eve. Jim never missed a birthday, anniversary or graduation. Although he was a man of few words, he enjoyed these large family gatherings and will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity and smile.

Along with his wife, Jim leaves behind his daughters, Susan Federico,

Lynn (Vinny) DeRobertis, and Cindy (Tim) Phelan; grandchildren, Kiley (Dan) Doyle, Kathryn DeRobertis, and Anna, Maggie, and Alessandra Phelan; greatgrandchildren, James and Rosie Doyle; sister, Marie Gargano; nephews, Bill, Michael, Larry, and Frank Gargano, Scott Centi, and Sean Farrell; nieces, Sandra Lee Martindale, Janine Farrell, and Casey Gray; and many extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Sandra Centi; niece, Kim Devlin; and inlaws, Jack Farrell, Eleanor and Jack McCarthy, Mike Gargano, and Scott Centi. He will be deeply missed.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, April 15, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the CodyWhite Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Agnes Church (Precious Blood Parish), 400 Merwin Ave., Milford (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH). Interment will follow at
