Phyllis Cricca Gibbs

-

Phyllis “Cricket” Cricca Gibbs, born on November 25, 1948, in New Haven, CT; to Anthony Cricca, and Helen Paranto Cricca, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 15, 2024.

Phyllis resided in Hamden most of her life. She worked at Liberty Mutual for many years. Her true pride was the 30 plus years she spent working at Dunbar Hill School. She was a devoted member of Dunbar United Church of Christ.

She loved her family fiercely and was always ready to go to battle for them. Any sporting game, or event her children, or grandchildren had, you would hear her above everyone else cheering them on.

She was extremely patriotic. Had a huge love for all animals. She enjoyed gardening while she was able to do so. Loved to keep the spirit of “The Venice”, her family’s restaurant alive. She was one of the UCONN Huskies biggest fans. Had a larger-than-life personality filled with quick wit, sass, and sarcasm! Most importantly she opened her home as a safe space for many people through the years.

She leaves behind her husband of 52 years Parris “Skip” Gibbs. Her son Parris “Mitch” (Karen) Gibbs of Wallingford. Daughter Christina Gibbs of Hamden. Her granddaughters Hayley, and Emily. A special “soul daughter”. A sister like Cousin Joanie. Her cats Pickles, and Pumpkin. Her sister Toni Michelle Cricca of Rocky Hill. And a whole bunch of friends and “kids” that considered her their second mom.

A special thanks to Compassus Hospice for keeping her comfortable. Especially her nurse Jen that surrounded her and her family with such love, and compassion on her final day.

A wake will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024, in Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden from 4pm-7pm. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024, in Colonial at 11am. Burial will follow at Beaverdale Memorial Park. Condolences may be expressed at www.colonialfunerals.com.
