Barbara Ross March 15, 1936 - April 27, 2024
Barbara Martino Ross, 88, of East Haven, beloved wife of the late George R. Ross
Jr., passed away on April 27, 2024 at the Ark Healthcare at Branford Hills. Loving mother of Kevin G. (Ashley) Ross of Durham. Cherished grandmother of Braydon Samuel Ross. Barbara was born in New Haven on March 15, 1936 daughter of the late Samuel P. and Antoinette Giannotti Martino. Prior to her retirement, Barbara was an accountant for Yale University. She was an incredible athlete. She was one of the top duckpin bowlers ever to come out of Connecticut. She played semi pro softball in the late 1950’s; but most importantly, she was happiest just playing catch with her grandson in the backyard. She was his biggest fan, and never missed one of his little league games. But also, she was like ALL the boy’s honorary Nonnie. That was her grandma title. She was an incredible cook; especially baking. Her pride and joy was the Easter Brunch that she hosted for ALL her extended family. It was legendary, and something that everyone looked forward to. Also, she made the greatest apple pie that I’ve ever had the pleasure to eat. And finally, if you can include her love of travel. She drove cross country three times, also trips to Italy, Mexico, Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Austria, and many others.
She loved immersing herself in other cultures, and was accepting and progressive with welcoming others, even at a time when it wasn’t trendy to do so. She was an extraordinary woman. She loved her family unequivocally, but her grandson Brayden was in a league of his own with her. He was her whole world. Nothing, or no one, made her happier.
