SHERMAN, LORAINE “LORI” F.

-

Loraine (Lori) F. Sherman, 66, of Clinton, completed her “Walk with Lori” on Friday, July 6, 2018 at The Connecticut Hospice, Branford, after a 21-month fight with myxofibro sarcoma. Lori, also known as “Sherm” to her friends, was born on Aug. 15, 1951, in Hartford and grew up in Killingworth and Madison. She graduated from Stoneleigh-Burnham School, in MA, and continued her education at Cazenovia College, NY, and the University of Bridgeport. She received her Masters degree in Education from Southern Connecticut State University. Lori was a teacher both professionally and personally. Her belief in the power of education to provide strength and hope in the world was shared through all Lori’s encounters. Her wisdom, her ability to listen to others, and her generous soul continue to comfort the lives of many. Sunsets, Native American Indian music, and a good cup of DD coffee were a few of her favorite things.

Lori leaves the love of her life for 26 years, her wife Norah J. Walsh of Clinton, to cherish their incredible memories together. Lori also leaves her niece Jane M. Walsh and nephew Coleman W. Walsh, III; and her childhood friend of 65 years, Holly Larsen; her best friend of 32 years, Maureen Whyte-Kitchings; and her Godson Richard Larsen III, as well as their families. She also cherished many dear friends from Stoneleigh (Go Owls!) and Caz. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward W. and Roberta Sherman.

Having been adopted as a baby and raised as a Sherman, Lori found her biological family in October 2016, after submitting a DNA sample to 23andMe and Ancestry.com and working endlessly to connect the dots. Lori’s life changed forever when she and Norah finally met her family, with a large mint chocolate chip ice cream in hand. They subsequently made 3 trips to the Thomaston/Rockland, ME area to become more acquainted with her new-found relatives. Lori was sorry not to have had more time with them but so appreciated their open and warm acceptance of her.

We would like to thank Patty Tsou and the nurses from the Guilford VNA, as well as Debbie, Lori’s CT Hospice home-care nurse, and the entire CT Hospice team from the Starr wing. Your dedication, love, and care is immeasurable. In addition, this journey would not have been possible without the love, guidance, and dedication of longtime friend and mentor, Ann Sinko. Rest In Peace Lori “IFLY.”

There will be a Circle of Life Celebration for Lori on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Noon at The Madison Winter Club, 251 Boston Post Rd., Madison, CT. Lori’s wish was that the celebration be casual dress and, if possible, for everyone to wear something purple, her favorite color. There will be a reception immediately following the ceremony.

In keeping with Lori’s strong belief in the importance of (especially girls’) education, she has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent in memory of Lori (Loraine) Sherman, Class of 1969, to: Stoneleigh-Burnham School
