-

WALLINGFORD — Ocean State Job Lot recently donated 1,929 cases — 13,503 pounds — of frozen clam strips to the Connecticut Food Bank, according to a release.

“We’re thrilled to get this food donation from Ocean State Job Lot,” Connecticut Food Bank CEO Bernie Beaudreau said in the release. “It’s unusual to get this type of product and we’re anxious to share it with our network of feeding programs across the state. It will provide a great source of protein and a special treat to many people who visit those programs.”

Beaudreau added that the Food Bank last year received “nearly 400,000 pounds of food” from Ocean State Job Lot.

“We’re happy and proud to call the Connecticut Food Bank our partner in helping address the needs of the communities we serve,” David Sarlitto, executive director of the Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation, said in the release. “With their leadership, and the generosity of customers we think are among the most generous on the planet, we’re that much closer to a hunger-free Connecticut.”

According to the release, the Ocean State Job Lot “Three Square Meals” program offers donated food to regional food banks across the Northeast each year, and the program in 2017 provided more than eight million pounds of food. The program is funded through Ocean State Job Lot customers during the holiday season and is matched by the company.
