PENNA, MARIE C.

Marie Chiaramonte Penna, 90 of Hamden died peacefully on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of sixty five years to Thomas Penna. Marie was born in New Haven on March 22, 1928, a daughter of the late Dominic and Florence Valente Chiaramonte, and had resided in Hamden for most of her life. She worked at the former Southern New England Telephone Co. for seven years, and was the office manager for the former Prospect News Service for over twenty years. Besides her husband, Marie is survived by a daughter, Nancy (Anthony) Zammataro of North Haven, four sons, Thomas (Joan) Penna of Cheshire, James (Carol) Penna of Hamden, Robert Penna of Johnstown, Colorado, and Christopher (Robin) Penna of Guilford, two brothers, Joseph (Luciana) Chiaramonte and Edward (Donna) Chiaramonte of West Haven, six grandchildren, Thomas (Gina) Zammataro, Amelia (Alan) Swisher, Jennifer (Michael) Cofrancesco, Dylan Penna, Alan Penna and Matthew Penna, and two great-grandchildren, Sheana Zammataro and Michael Cofrancsco. A third great-grandchild, Ella Marie Swisher was born just hours after Marie’s passing. She was predeceased by three sisters, Florence “Cookie” Shoup, Agnes “Dolly” Corrigan and Gloria Chiaramonte, and one brother, Dominic “Bingy” Chiaramonte. Marie’s family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, August 13 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. Her funeral procession will leave from the funeral home on Tuesday, August 14 at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 2819 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Burial will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park, Hamden.
