Tractor-trailer accident closes I-95 in Guilford
On Twitter, Connecticut State Police characterized the accident as a “fatal crash.”
Staff reports
A fatal crash involving a tractor-trailer closed the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Guilford for over eight hours on Saturday morning.
The crash, which involved a tractor-trailer and another vehicle, happened at about 6:30 a.m. Saturday between Exits 58 and 59, the state Department of Transportation said.
Cars were passing the crash scene on the left median on I-95 north as of 11:40 a.m. Saturday, more than five hours after the collision closed the highway.
Both lanes of I-95 were reopened after 3 p.m. Saturday, according to State Police. Orange trucks from the state Department of Transportation were still working on the shoulder at 3:45 p.m.
On Twitter, state police characterized the accident as a “fatal crash.” An earlier Tweet described it as a “crash with ejection and serious injury,” state police said. No further details on the crash or the victim were available Saturday afternoon.
Backups of 5 miles or more were reported much of the morning and the afternoon, with the two lanes closed in the area.
Traffic cameras showed a rolled-over truck off the right shoulder of I-95, with first responders and cleanup crews working at the scene for much of the day.
Cars and trucks were diverted off I-95 at Exit 58, with traffic jams reported back to Exit 55, the DOT said.
