WALLACE, ELIZABETH “BETTY” (SITKIEWICZ)

Elizabeth “Betty” Wallace of South Pasadena, FL formerly of Baltic, CT died peacefully at home at the age of 90 surrounded by her family on Sunday, August 19, 2018.

Betty was married to the late Richard “Dick” Wallace for over 60 wonderful years. She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Richard and Veronica (Collins) of Guilford, CT and Jack and Jane (Branca) of Needham, MA. She is also grandmothe­r to Catherine Wallace and her fiancé Joseph Hussey Jr., and Megan Wallace, all of Guilford, CT as well as two great grandchild­ren, Makenzie Hussey and Joseph Hussey III. She is survived by her sister Irene Polowy of Thomaston, CT and was the sister of the late Loretta Raczinski, John Sitkiewicz and Marion Flaherty.

Betty was born in Thomaston on November 5, 1927 to Stanley and Alice (Marwicki) Sitkiewicz and is a 1945 graduate of Thomaston High School. She married her high school sweetheart in 1950. While raising her family, she attended and graduated from Eastern Connecticu­t State College in 1971. Betty also earned a Masters Degree from the University of Connecticu­t in 1975. Betty was a dedicated teacher and taught at the Sacred Heart School in Taftville, CT, the Gales Ferry Middle School and the Juliet W. Long School in Ledyard, CT until her retirement. She was certified to teach K-12 and primarily taught the 5th grade.

In 1985, Betty and Dick relocated to Florida to enjoy their retirement years. Betty became active in civic affairs and maintained her passion for lifelong learning. She was a member of the Pass-a-Grille and St. Petersburg Yacht Clubs as well as the St. Petersburg Opera Guild.

Calling hours will held on Monday morning, August 27 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High St., Thomaston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Church, Main Street Thomaston. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery in Terryville.
