Carl Calabrese, long time resident of Guilford, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 25, 2018. Husband of Donna (Terrill) Calabrese. Carl was born July 14, 1928 in Mount Kisco, NY, son of the late Dominic Calabrese and Helen Marino Calabrese. Father of Dominic Calabrese of Florida, Richard Magnotti and his partner, Patricia Cafazzo of East Haven, Roman Calabrese and his wife Nadine of Hondo, TX, Nicole Calabrese of Guilford. Brother of Carol Genussa. Also survived by five grandchild­ren; Carrie, Ashton, Kylen, Kaiya and Shealyn, four nephews and one niece. Predecease­d by a sister Lou, nephew Buddy and a niece Kim.

Carl received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of New Hampshire. After several years working as a drug counselor and substance abuse therapy with Daytop, Inc., Danbury Prison and director of in house treatment program in New Haven Veritas, he spent 40 dedicated years at Yale university’s SAT II unit working with those who battled addiction until he retired at age 82. He also was a trained certified acupunctur­ist, using it to help people with addiction to smoking and others.

Carl was a devoted husband, father and animal lover. He was a great sports fan of the NY Giants, NY Mets and NY Rangers. He enjoyed many games with his family and friends. He never missed a ball game when it came to his children and their sports. Always there with support and guidance. In his earlier years Carl fought in the New York state Golden Gloves, receiving a bronze medal and also played bass in several jazz bands in clubs in Harlem. He loved Jazz music, fishing and practical jokes but his favorite hobby was riding his motorcycle. He will be missed by his family and the many lives he impacted so positively.

Friends are invited to a celebratio­n of life on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 12 noon – 2 p.m. at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford.
