D’AMATO, MARY LOU

Our very own earth angel went to stay with her favorite angels on August 27, 2018 after a brief illness. Mary Lou entered this life on November 24, 1957, the third child of the late Ray and Joan (Scholhamer) Malone of East Haven, CT. She leaves to mourn her passing her adoring and beloved husband Alex D’Amato of Clinton, CT, brothers, Ray Malone of Foxboro, MA, Ed Malone (ret. NHFD) of Garden City, SC, a sister and best friend Patti (Joe) Russo of New Haven, CT. She was the cherished Aunt Mare Mare to Alena Russo, Joseph Russo and Eddie Malone. She loved Alex’s sisters and their families, sisters-in-law, Teresa (Joe) DeGregorio, Pam (Larry) Beaudette, brother-inlaw, Andrew (Judy) D’Amato and numerous nieces/ nephews and great nieces/nephews.

Mary Lou will be held in the hearts of many other relatives and friends. Besides her parents, Mary Lou was predeceased by her baby brother Billy Malone, her inlaws, Frank and Mary (Carrano) D’Amato, her paternal grandparents, Raymond and Jane Malone and maternal grandparents, Louretta and her favorite “POPPOP” George Scholhamer, with whom she shared a special relationship.

Mary Lou graduated from Quinnipiac College and Berkshire Medical Center with a degree in Cytology. She loved the challenge and science of her profession, practicing for over 30 years before retiring in 2015. Mary Lou was a world traveler and loved adventure. It didn’t matter to her whether she stayed in the most exclusive areas of Europe or was roughing it by rafting down the Amazon River or backpacking through South America or Ireland. She and Alex enjoyed their yearly cruises exploring the beautiful cultures of the Caribbean. Our adored wife, sister, aunt and friend had a zest and love for life and people. She will be sorely missed.

Now voyager, come home, come home to rest, Lay down the fiery vision and be blest, be blest.” Family and friends are invited to meet and attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church, 5 Hillhouse Ave., New Haven, CT 06511, Committal will be private. Funeral services are under the care of Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Donation may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd. Branford, CT 06405 in memory of Mary Lou D’Amato.
