Richard Arnold “Dick” Vollmer passed away on September 4, 2018, at the age of 90. Born in Chicago, Richard was a lifelong railfan and Cubs and Bears fan. He proudly served in the US Army in WWII and the Korean War as he recalled for the Library of Congress Veterans History Project. He received his MA from Michigan State and his MBA from Harvard. A corporate accountant, he retired in 1992. Richard married Joan Kerrigan in 1955. They raised their family in CT where Richard enjoyed announcing Hand High Lacrosse games, being a motorman and conductor at the Shore Line Trolley Museum, and Pepe’s Pizza with the family. Retiring to Albuquerqu­e, NM, he was active in the La Mesa Presbyteri­an Church. He moved to Randolph, NJ in 2010. Richard and his stories will always be beloved by his children Patricia and her husband Paul Montney of Randolph, NJ, Margaret Vollmer of Boston, MA, Kerry Hunt of Omokoroa, New Zealand, and Tom and his wife Kathleen Vollmer of Madison, CT. He is also survived by his grandchild­ren: Rusty Montney, his wife Melissa, and their children Mae and Reid; Mark Montney; Richard Vollmer; and Emily Vollmer. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 20th, from 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Rd., Madison. A memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home and burial with military honors will follow in West Cemetery, Madison.
