New Haven Register (Sunday) (New Haven, CT)
Foote School is an independent school for Grades K through 9 where children love to learn.
Children at Foote learn by solving real-world challenges that develop their curiosity, collaboration, empathy and resilience. Each day balances academic rigor and play, freedom and responsibility— each with the same high expectations of hard work and joy in learning.
Students explore a wide-ranging curriculum in literature, history, mathematics, science, writing and technology. In every grade, they participate in Spanish or Chinese, as well as drama, music, art and physical education. All grades benefit from time for unstructured play and daily recess.
Foote students love coming to school because each day is filled with hands-on learning challenges that require creativity and teamwork. Foote offers a safe place for young children to grow and explore, and a welcoming and diverse community for families.
Foote’s 18-acre campus features 11 classroom buildings, a 48,000-volume library, science and technology labs, a black-box theater, music rooms, art studios, a gymnasium, playing fields, teaching gardens and a wooded area for outdoor education. Students benefit from our central location in New Haven, which presents off-campus learning opportunities from museum visits to service-learning projects.
Our size is just right: small enough to build a closeknit community, yet large enough so students can interact with a variety of classmates and diversity of perspectives throughout their years at Foote.
Central to Foote’s strong academic program is our commitment to diversity and inclusion. Our students learn to celebrate our diversity and actively seek opportunities to serve and lead.
Children leave Foote with a globally inspired education and pride in the contributions they have made to the school community. Our graduates go on to become judges and journalists, artists and diplomats, entrepreneurs, restaurateurs and more, applying their Foote School experiences to lead lives of purpose.
