At Sacred Heart Academy You Can!

Sacred Heart Academy is an independent, Catholic college preparatory school for young women in grades 9 through 12, located at 265 Benham Street in Hamden. The Academy’s distinctive hillside location with breathtaking views contributes to an atmosphere that is open and conducive to learning in and out of the classroom.

Our faculty members, more than 80% of whom hold one or more masters or doctoral degrees, introduce innovative, collaborative means of learning while students work in groups discussing ideas and developing solutions to problems. Through block scheduling and extensive class time students achieve, and they succeed. We offer 104 courses of which 20 are Advanced Placement for college credit, with an 8:1 student to teacher ratio, and an average class size of 19 students. Sacred Heart is a place where young women find their strength and learn to lead while discovering their academic abilities and interests.

Through participation in 14 varsity sports and 40 clubs, students further explore and develop their interests and appreciate the importance of caring for others. At the legendary Shubert Theatre in New Haven, students act, sing, dance, and work with professional technicians on sound, staging, and lights. Our cutting edge research in state-of-the-art molecular science, chemistry, physics, and biology laboratories has been nationally recognized.

Beyond our strong academic preparation for college, our students recognize the importance of values. They learn to respect the goodness and difference in others and share their talents through community service and participation in service clubs and organizations. One hundred percent of our graduates attend four-year colleges, and emerge dedicated to lifelong learning and to sharing the values learned at Sacred Heart in communities throughout the world. The Class of 2018 was accepted to more than 220 colleges and universities and awarded more than 32 million dollars in scholarships.
