Following in family’s footsteps

- THE LIST Highest for sale

When Jill Nathanson decided to move back to Hamden after working in New York City’s garment district, she knew a career change was at hand. Having a mother who has been a Realtor since 1976, and a real estate attorney as a father, becoming a Realtor in 2003 and partnering with her mother, Ellen Nathanson, was a natural fit.

“Some of my earliest memories are of accompanying my mother on showings and hearing my father negotiate contracts. I felt like I already knew so much of the business,” Nathanson said.

Nathanson sees herself as more of a consultant than a salesperson.

“Real estate is a service job, pure and simple,” she said. “My job is to give my clients the best service — advice, guidance and assistance and to use my knowledge and expertise to get my client the best possible deal while placing their interests above all.”

keep emotions at bay so that the transaction can move forward.”

Nathanson derives her greatest joy from visiting her buyers in their new homes, and seeing her sellers move on to their new homes. She enjoys working with first-time buyers and sellers, who both need a lot of hand-holding, guidance and patience.

A founding member of Save Hamden Trees and the Hamden Tree Commission, Nathanson is dedicated to maintaining the town’s healthy tree canopy, as she feels trees add to the health and beauty of a town, while making it more desirable from a real estate perspective.
