OWEN, HENRY H.

-

Henry H. Owen passed away peacefully at CT Hospice on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018 with his family by his side. Henry was a dedicated longtime Madison resident, having been born in Madison 77 years ago on January 4, 1941 to the late Harry and Emilie (Boston Fish) Owen. He attended Daniel Hand School from K-12 and was very proud to be a member of the last class graduating (1959) from the original Hand High. Every member in this class had a nickname and Henry was called “Ozone”.

Henry went on to serve in the US Army in Texas and then in Germany. He then went to Quinnipiac University to receive his BS in Accounting. As life went on, Henry furthered his career and education by completing a Masters of Professional Studies in 1987 at Quinnipiac. When Cater transferred him to Indiana for ten years, he earned a Masters of Science in Business Administration in 1977 and followed this with a Masters of Business Administration in 1988 from Indiana University. Henry worked as a corporate accountant for Bayer Pharmaceutical for more than 40 years. Prior to Bayer, Henry worked at Valley Metallurgical in Essex and General Dynamics in Groton.

In his spare time, Henry enjoyed gardening, building stone walls, creating snow sculptures in the winter, golfing with the Madison Men’s Senior Gold League, working and socializing at the Westbrook Elks #1784, and co-chairing the Madison Property Owners Association.

Henry was the loving husband of Elaine (Farli) Owen of Madison, caring father of Gary Owen (Andrea) of Burke, Virginia and Stay Owen (Jeff Macmillan) of Portland, Maine. He was the very proud grandfather of Michelle and Monica Macmillan, and Olivia and Andrew Owen. Henry is survived by his sister, Emilie Hick (Ron) of Madison and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to a memorial service at the First Congregational Church of Madison on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Doible Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks for the wonderful care given Henry by Dr. James Handson and Dr. Wajih Zaheer Kidwai of Yale’s Smilow Cancer Hospital and the Grimes Center in New Haven.
