Quinnipac men cruise past Lafayette

Cameron Young scored 28 points and led six players in double-figure scoring as Quinnipiac cruised past Lafayette 88-77 on Saturday in Hamden.

The Bobcats (4-4) capped a 23-13 start with back-toback 3-pointers by Tyrese Williams and Travis Atson then stretched it to 41-23 on a Cameron Young layup with 5:22 left in the half. They led 45-30 at the break.

Quinnipiac led by double figures throughout the second half and went up by as much as 25 points, 71-46, on a 3-pointer by Atson with 7:38 to play.

Williams finished with 16 points and seven assists, Rich Kelly had 11 points and Atson, Kevin Marfo and Aaron Robinson added 10 points apiece. Marfo led the team with eight rebounds.

Justin Jaworski scored 19 points to lead the Leopards (2-7) who have lost four straight. Alex Petrie added 15 points and E.J. Stephens had 11.

Southern Connecticu­t 86, Pace 82 (OT): Five Owls recorded double-digit points in their Northeast-10 Conference win at Goldstein Fitness Center in Pleasantvi­lle, N.Y. for their third straight victory.

Ulyen Coleman led the Owls (5-5, 4-2) with 24 points and registered a season-high six assists with seven rebounds. Isaiah McLeod scored 21 points and had 11 rebounds with two assists and Kealen Ives had 14 points, seven assists and seven rebounds.

Peyton Wejnert led the Setters (7-3, 4-2) with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Le Moyne 62, New Haven 55: at Syracuse, N.Y., Roy Kane Jr. scored a season-high 19 points in the Chargers’ NE-10 loss.

Derrick Rowland added 13 points for UNH (5-3, 3-3 NE-10), while Najee Larcher added 10 points. Le Moyne improved to 6-3 (4-2 NE-10).

Albertus Magus 100, Fisher 81: Rayshawn Brewer had 20 points and eight rebounds and Tyreek Perkins added 17 points and six rebounds to lead the Falcons to their nonconfere­nce win in New Haven.

Jahrell Spence had 14 points and Terry Dawkins added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Falcons (8-3). Jhalen Lumpkins led Fisher (4-8) with 26 points.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Princeton 54, Quinnipiac 42: at Princeton, N.J., Bella Alaire finished with 16 points and 19 rebounds as the Tigers downed the Bobcats in a non-conference game.

Jaden Ward led Quinnipiac (4-5) with nine points.

Yale 58, Vermont 55: Roxy Barahman had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Tori Andrew added 15 points to lead the Bulldogs to their win at Burlington, Vermont. Megan Gorman added 12 rebunds for the Bulldpgs (6-5). Hanna Crymble led the Catamounts (4-5) with 22 points snd six rebounds.

SCSU 62, Pace 57: Junior Kiana Steinauer had her seventh double-double of the year and led the Owls to their NE-10 win with 18 points, 17 rebounds, three assists and a steal at the Goldstein Fitness Center in Pleasantvi­lle, N.Y.

Imani Wheeler and Amanda Pfohl added 13 points each for the Owls (6-3, 3-3), while Aaliyah Walker had 11 points.

Jackie DelliSanti led the Setters (3-7, 2-4) with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Le Moyne 66, New Haven 56: at Syracuse, N.Y., Micah Wormack finished with a team-high 13 points as the Chargers dropped an NE-10 decision.

Camryn DeBose added 12 points for UNH (6-4, 2-3 NE-10). Le Moyne improved to 7-2 (4-2 NE-10).

Albertus Magnus 94, Pine Manor 70: At New Haven, Rah Rah Thompson (15 points, 12 rebounds) and Jill Johnson (12 points, 11 assists) each had doubledoub­les in the Falcons’ win.

Kristin Cunning led Albertus (8-1) in scoring with 20 points, while Wanda Tejada added 13 points and Andreah Orr had 12. Pine Manor fell to 1-8.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

Yale 6, Vermont 4: at New Haven, Claire Dalton scored the go-ahead goal on a penalty shot in the third period as the Bulldogs picked up a non-conference win.

Dalton and Greta Skarzynski and Rebecca Vanstone each finished with a pair of goals for Yale (311-0). Gianna Meloni made 16 saves to pick up her first win.

Vermont fell to 5-10-4. Rensselaer 1, Quinnipiac 0:Blake Orosz scored the game-winning goal at 19:59 of the third period and Lovisa Selander had 41 saves to lead the Engineers to an ECAC Hockey win in Troy, New York.

Abbie Ives had 20 saves for the Bobcats (5-11-3, 45-1). The Engineers are 6-9-4, 4-4.
