Daniels scores career high in Hillhouse win

Ta’zhon Daniels scored a career-high 32 points, and added five steals, for the Hillhouse boys basketball team, which defeated Guilford 78-46 Saturday afternoon in a Southern Connecticu­t Conference game at New Haven.

Jaiden Satchell grabbed 10 rebounds and Jacari Douglas handed out 10 assists for the Academics (3-1), which outscored Guilford 26-7 in the third quarter. Colin Kellaher scored 20 points to lead the Indians (1-3).

West Haven 85, RHAM 52: Quannel Straughter poured in 30 points for West Haven in the consolatio­n final of the first Winter Snow Jam Tournament at West Haven.

Muffee Cooper added 13 points for the Westies (3-1) and Tyrese Hargrove scored 11.

Trumbull 69, Stratford 53: Timmond Williams scored 27 points for Trumbull in a non-conference win at Stratford. Mike August paced the Redd Devils with 17 points.

Norwich Free Academy 60, Hand 53: Mason Jackson scored 20 points to lead Norwich Free Academy (3-1) to the non-conference win at Madison. Jason Wallack and Pierson Chapman had 14 and 13 points, respective­ly, for Hand (2-2).

Foran 66, Platt Tech 44: John Shannon led all scorers with 30 points for Foran in a non-conference home win at Milford. Kamien Murphy led Platt Tech with 12 points.

BOYS HOCKEY

Amity 3, Staples 2 (OT): Caleb Marcin scored in overtime as Amity completed its come-from-behind victory in a non-conference win at West Haven.

Ryan Miller and Jason Dittman assisted on the goal for the Spartans. Jason Csejka and Nelson Bordeleau also scored for Amity. Brian Krawiec scored both goals for the Wreckers.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

No. 5 Hamden 62, Norwich Free Academy 44: Taniyah Thompson led the way with 25 points for undefeated Hamden (4-0) in a non-league win at Norwich. Makaela Johnson added 11 points for thee Green Dragons. Bella Granziano also scored 11 points to lead the Wildcats (2-4).

Shelton 54, Bunnell 28: Maggie Joyce led all scorers with 13 points for Shelton in the consolatio­n final of its Christmas tournament. Jasmine St Clair led Bunnell with 10 points.
