Pecknold secures 500th win

Peter DiLiberato­re had a goal and an assist to lead the No. 4/5 Quinnipiac men’s hockey team to a 6-0 nonconfere­nce win over Colgate at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York on Saturday.

Andrew Shortridge had 19 saves and Josh Mayanja had one save to preserve the Bobcats’ shutout.

Quinnipiac coach Rand Pecknold becomes the 26th coach in NCAA hockey history to record his 500th career victory and 17th at the Division I level. He currently has the third most wins among active head coaches, trailing Boston College’s Jerry York and Mercyhurst’s Rick Gotkin.

It was the second win this season over Colgate with the Bobcats (15-3, 6-2) winning 5-0 on Nov. 17. Quinnipiac owns the all-time series record over Colgate at 23-15-2.

Andrew Farrier had 28 saves for the Raiders (410-2, 1-3-2).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

New Haven 71, Nyack 41: Five players scored in double figures in the Chargers’ win, with senior Alexandria Kerr leading the team with 13 points, eight rebounds and a career-high seven assists.

Katia Oge, Micah Wormack and Camryn DeBose had 12 points each and Allieyah Cubbage added 11 points and seven rebounds. Kerr and Cubbage added four steals each for New Haven. The Chargers (8-4) took a 21-0 lead to start the game and never looked back. Elle Nittinger led Nyack (1-10) with 12 points.

Yale 59, North Carolina A&T 49: Roxy Barahman had 18 points and 14 rebounds, Megan Gorman added 12 points and Camilla Emsbo had six points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs to the FAU Holiday Classic championsh­ip at FAU Arena in Boca Raton, Florida.

The Bulldogs (10-5) limited the Aggies (3-10) to 28 percent shooting for their fifth win in a row. Cinia McCray led the Aggies with 21 points. Gorman was named MVP of the tournament.
