John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band to kick off 2019
MADISON — The Fire In The Kitchen Concerts series starts 2019 with a show by the John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band on Saturday in the North Madison Congregational Church.
Showtime is 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 for adults and $5 for children of high school age and under. The church is at 1271 Durham Road. For reservations, email workdog@mindspring.com or call organizer Charlie Shafer at
203-668-3735.
Jorgenson is a multiple Grammy Award winner who according to Shafer “has long been considered one of the best guitarists in the world by all his peers.”
Known for his love of multiple genres, Jorgenson formed the Desert Rose band years ago, then later went on to found The Hellecasters and tour in Elton John’s band for several years.
He has performed in the Fire In The Kitchen series multiple times with his gypsy jazz quintet, Shafer said.
On Saturday, he’ll join his old Desert Rose band partner Herb Pederson to take on bluegrass.
“While he touches on a number of traditional bluegrass tunes, he can’t quite sit still with that, so he goes further back and explores the roots of country music, and also leaps forward to some more adventurous contemporary originals,” Shafer said in an email.
“It will be a night to remember: small venue, big talent, and always an Ashley’s ice cream reception” afterwards, Shafer said.
