High expectations: With all five starters back, Houston was picked third in the American Athletic Conference preseason poll — the program’s highest ranking since joining the league in 2013-14.

With conference play beginning Sunday against UConn (noon), the question becomes whether the Cougars can live up to those expectations. So far, their performance has been mixed at best: a 6-7 record, including 1-3 in overtime games.

Junior guard Jasmyne Harris, a preseason All-Conference pick, leads the team with 16.8 points and 3.4 assists per game.

UConn is 6-0 all-time against Houston, including a 95-35 victory in the Lone Star State last season.

Home sweet home: This is the first conference game in the newly renovated Fertitta Center. Formerly named Hofheinz Pavilion, the Cougars’ home of nearly 48 years underwent a $60 million facelift following the 2016-17 season and seats 7,100.

Last season due to renovations, Houston played its home games two miles away at Health and Physical Education Arena on the campus of Texas Southern.

Finding her role: After missing six games with a sprained knee, UConn forward Batouly Camara returned in Thursday’s loss to Baylor. And while Camara didn’t produce much (one rebound, one block and three fouls in five minutes), coach Geno Auriemma liked the intangibles she brought off the bench.

“Touly’s going to hit somebody, hopefully it’s the other team,” Auriemma joked. “I thought she gave us some great minutes. I probably left her in there a little too long because she hasn’t played much. She hasn’t been healthy all year.

“She competes, man. She goes in there and she bangs around.”

The Huskies may need Camara’s height (6-foot-2), as Houston ranks first in the AAC and 24th in the country in offensive rebounding (16.0 per game).
