Platt & The Honeycutters returning to Cafe Nine

NEW HAVEN — Amanda Anne Platt & The Honeycutters have been attracting attention in the country roots world for a few years now, but it’s only over the last couple of years that Platt’s name has been added in front of the name of the band.

“Amanda Anne Platt & The Honeycutters” also is the name of their latest album, released on Organic Records in 2017. But onstage, Platt has always been the focal point — and that will be clear when the Asheville, N.C.-based band performs Tuesday night at Cafe Nine.

Showtime is 8:30 p.m., with the New London’s Dogbite duo opening. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door, available in advance at the Cafe Nine

The Honeycutters are Matt Smith on pedal steel and Fender Stratocaster guitar, Rick Cooper on bass, Josh Milligan on drums and harmony vocals and Evan Martin on keys and Fender Telecaster guitar.

The Honeycutters’ music, and the new album, are a blend of what the band calls an “old-school country roots attitude” with their shared influences of rock and folk.

“I think it’s just about life and all that that entails,” Platt said in a news release on the band’s website. “Including but not limited to death, strangers, birthdays, money, leaving, arriving, seasons, corruption, and love.”

The band has been featured in recent years on NPR’s World Cafe’s Sense of Place, NPR’s Mountain Stage, Nashville’s Music City Roots and Folk Alley, and it has performed at AmericanaFest, MerleFest and IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association.)
