Olive S. Westerberg, 95, formerly of Clinton, a school psychologi­st with the Branford School Department for more than 20 years before retiring in 1988, died Thursday, Feb. 14 at Scalabrini Villa in North Kingstown, RI. She was the wife of the late Frank E. Westerberg.

Born May 28, 1923 in Windham, CT, a daughter of the late Albert and Gladys (Brooks) Sonnichsen, she had lived in Clinton for 41 years before moving to Old Saybrook in 2003.

She was a graduate of Windham High School, where she was valedictor­ian of her class. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire, where she was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi honor society. She also attended the University of Connecticu­t and was a charter member of the Alpha Delta Phi sorority there. She later received her master’s degree from UConn.

Mrs. Westerberg had also worked as a school psychologi­st in the New Britain School Department. During World War II she was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as part of the war effort.

After retiring, she was a tutor with Literacy Volunteers, and also volunteere­d at the Joel Elementary School and Valley Shore Animal Welfare League. She enjoyed traveling, and had made several trips to England. She leaves two daughters, Lisa M. Dixon of Wakefield, RI, and Karen E. Westerberg of South Portland, Maine, and an “honorary” daughter, Phuong Nguyen of Clinton; a son-in-law, Mark A. Dixon of Wakefield; and two grandsons, Alexander Ratta and Nicholas Ratta, both of South Portland. She was predecease­d by a brother, Noel Sonnichsen.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. at Beaver Brook Cemetery, Route 145, Clinton. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
