Help people save money
According to a recent New Haven Register story, some nameless “consumer groups,” U.S. Sen. Richard Blumental and state Consumer Counsel Elin Katz have called for the end of third-party electric suppliers in Connecticut. Third-party electric suppliers, roughly 70 in number, offer Connecticut residents and businesses the chance to shop the market for a more competitive electricity generation rate on their electric bills. This rate makes up about 28 percent of your electric bill.
Thousands of Connecticut consumers have been saving money with the program through contracts with third-party electric suppliers. The program’s critics say that some consumers have been ripped off with higher rates and predatory practices. Every day, people from all walks of life consider contracts, whether it’s for an apartment, to buy a car, take out a loan, or consider a third-party electric supplier. If confused or unsure about a contract, they often get help from friends or family members. If they don’t like the price or its terms they don’t have to take the contract. With third-party electric contracts, if fraud or predatory practices are discovered, the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, a consumer protection agency, will take action.
Did you know that Connecticut is the thirdhighest state in residential electricity expenses? ou must ask, therefore, why would some nameless “consumer groups,” Sen. Blumental and Katz want to stop Connecticut consumers from trying to save money on their electric bills? Jean Dekas Woodbridge
