SCSU prevails in overtime

Kiana Steinauer scored nine of her team’s 11 points in overtime to give the Southern Connecticu­t State women’s basketball team an 82-78 Northeast-10 win over Pace in New Haven.

Steinauer finished with a game-high 34 points and added 11 rebounds for the Owls (14-14, 8-12 NE-10), while Imani Wheeler scored 23 points.

Southern nearly won in regulation, but Alexandra Monteleone’s layup as time expired helped Pace (14-14, 8-12 NE-10) force the extra session.

Harvard 83, Yale 69: Madeline Raster had 24 points and eight rebounds and Katie Benzan added 18 points and four assists to lead the Crimson to an Ivy League win in Cambridge, Mass.

Jeannie Boehm added 14 points and nine rebounds for the Crimson (14-9, 7-3).

Tori Andrew led the Bulldogs with 23 points and Roxy Barahman added 21 points. Alexandra Maund came off the bench to chip in with 11 points and nine rebounds for the Bulldogs (15-10, 5-5).

Quinnipiac 78, Marist 66: At Hamden, Jen Fay scored 20 points to lead five Bobcats in double figures in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win.

Aryn McClure added 16 points for Quinnipiac (21-6, 16-0 MAAC). She was followed by Edel Thornton (12 points), Paula Strautmane (11 points) and Birttany Martin (11 points).

Alana Gilmer led Marist (19-9, 11-5 MAAC) with 21 points.

New Haven 55, AIC 52: At Springfiel­d, Mass., Micah Wormack finished with 14 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Chargers to an NE-10 win.

Alexandria Kerr led all scorers with 21 points for the Chargers (16-11, 9-10 NE-10). Dana Watts led AIC (15-12, 10-10 NE-10) with 17 points.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

SCSU 77, Pace 61: Isaiah McLeod had 27 points and five rebounds to lead the Owls to an NE-10 win on Senior Day in New Haven.

C.J. Seaforth of Hamden finished with 16 points, including four 3-pointers, and had eight rebounds. Joey Wallace added 10 points and five rebounds for the Owls (17-11, 12-8).

Austin Gilbertson had 16 points for the Setters (15-12, 9-10).

New Haven 79, AIC 65: All five Chargers starters scored in double figures led by Elijah Bailey’s 23 points in their NE-10 win in Springfiel­d, Mass.

Kessly Felizor added 18 points, Roy Kane had 13, Derrick Rowland had 12 and Quashawn Lane added 11 for the Chargers (18-7, 12-7).

Isaiah Salter led AIC (10-17, 10-12) with 17 points and Adonis Williams added 10.

MEN’S LACROSSE

Vermont 20, Quinnipiac 10: At Burlington, Vermont, Will Abbott had a pair of goals and three assists in the Bobcats’ road loss.

Jake Tomsik added three goals and an assist for Quinnipiac (0-3); Liam Limoges and Jack Knight scored four goals apiece for Vermont (3-1).

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

Yale 2, Harvard 2: With the Bulldogs trailing 2-1, Emma Seitz scored 5:58 into the second period to lift Yale to an ECAC Hockey tie in New Haven.

Kat Hughes gave the Crimson a 2-1 lead at 4:36 of the second period. Lindsay Reed had 37 saves for Harvard (11-13-5, 9-9-4) and Kyra O’Brien had 14 for Yale (8-18-3, 7-12-3).

Quinnipiac 1, No. 5 Clarkson 1: Randi Marcon scored a power-play goal at 14:56 of the third period to lift the Bobcats to an ECAC Hockey tie at Potsdam, N.Y.

Abbie Ives had 26 saves for the Bobcats (12-16-6, 9-9-4). Elizabeth Giguere gave Clarkson a 1-0 lead at 13:41 of the second period. Kassidy Sauve had 25 saves for Clarkson (25-7-2, 16-5-2).

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

Quinnipiac 14, LIU Brooklyn 8: At Hamden, Megan Szawlowski finished with four goals and a pair of assists to lead the Bobcats to a non-conference win.

Allison Kuhn added two goals and two assists for Quinnipiac (2-2), while Sami Walters made eight saves. LIU Brooklyn fell to 0-3.

WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK

Holmes sets record at Big 10 championsh­ips: Alexis Holmes of Hamden, a freshman on the Penn State women’s indoor track and field team, won the 400 title today at the Big 10 indoor track and field championsh­ips. Her time of 52.14 seconds is a school record. She is a graduate of Cheshire Academy.
