When Ken Burton was looking for a career change with less corporate travel, a flexible schedule and a chance to spend more time with his family, he felt that real estate could be both a fulfilling and rewarding choice.
“I had a background in corporate and medical device sales, along with negotiating and marketing experience. The idea of working on the same side of the negotiating table with clients really appealed to me,” Burton explained.
As an experienced agent, Burton knows that listening is always the most important thing when working with clients, but adds that patience is a close second.
“I can listen to what a buyer wants, but ultimately, I must be prepared to wait for them to find and fall in love with the right property for them,” he says.
“The third piece of the puzzle is knowledge; the reason I am in the room is because they want my opinions about value, potential problems and help in quarterbacking the purchase to a successful closing.”
When working with sellers, Burton utilizes a variety resources and strategies to ensure his listings get maximum exposure by proactively marketing to the general public and the Realtor community.
Burton does this through numerous online channels, using professional photos and videos and creating custom websites that act as landing pages with “schedule a showing” capabilities for targeted social media campaigns.
He also performs reverse prospecting searches to identify which Realtors have clients already interested in properties that match a home’s criteria.
For Burton, the most rewarding part of his career is the supreme excitement and pure joy he witnesses at the end of the transaction. “It is a moment I get to share and be a part of.”
Like many busy parents, Burton’s community involvement has centered around the activities of his children.
He has been an active member of the St. James Fathers Club, a soccer coach for the Sterling House recreation league, a cub scout cubmaster for Pack 75, and Boy Scout Committee Chairman for Troop 12.
