Church adopts military battalion, families

NORTH BRANFORD — The Northford Congregational Church is adopting a National Guard unit from Connecticut that will be deploying in mid-March, for one year in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Other community groups are invited to join this project. The church is helping the soldiers and their families, providing them with any needs they have. There are 120 guardsmen, approximately 91 men and 29 women, who are leaving 60 children behind. Four babies are expected to be born while they are deployed. The first projects will involve sending letters of thanks and support once they are deployed and collecting items for the babies being born during the deployment.

Information about their needs and how to donate will be available during a community workshop, every Thursday from 4 – 6 p.m. in the church Social Hall (side door near route 22). During March, Tom Waggoner, a new State Farm Agent, will donate $5 to the project for every free insurance quote for new customers only who mention “Quotes For Good” and the National Guard project.
