NEW HAVEN — Two men were shot and wounded in separate incidents in the city Thursday, according to police.

In the first incident, officers responded to reported gunfire near Cedar Hill Avenue and May Street just before 5:30 p.m., finding evidence of gunfire close to the intersection, Capt. Anthony Duff said in an email.

“Several minutes later, a gunshot victim was droppedoff by private vehicle at Yale New Haven Hospital at 1450 Chapel Street. The 37-year-old West Haven man had been shot in the thigh. His injuries were non-life threatening,” Duff said.

“Detectives responded to the hospital and the crime scene,” Duff said. “Investigators learned the shooting happened during an attempted robbery of the victim.”

Then, just before 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert of gunfire on Winter Street between Goffe and Webster streets, Duff said.

Officers were directed to the wounded man, a 33-year-old New Haven resident, who was outside a Goffe Street residence.

“New Haven Fire and American Medical Response arrived and treated the victim. The 33-year-old man had been shot in the shoulder, abdomen, buttocks, and thigh. An ambulance transported the victim to the hospital where he remains in stable condition,” Duff said.

“At the scene, detectives canvassed Winter Street and a portion of the neighborhood,” Duff said. “It is believed the victim was riding a bicycle when an unknown gunman on foot shot him.”

There are no indications the two shootings were related, Duff said. Both remain under investigation.

Duff asked anyone with information regarding either incident to to contact the New Haven Police Department at 203-946-6304.
