MVP GARY MOORE JR.
Hillhouse, Junior
Stats: At the SCC dual meets, won the shot put three times with throws of 57 feet, 11 inches, 58-1 and 60-8 (school record). The 60-8 throw ranks fifth all-time in Connecticut high school and at the time ranked No. 6 nationally. He set a state record in the weight throw with a throw of 71-3. At the Meet of Champions (outdoor meet) in Myrtle Beach, S.C. in March, in the Championship Division he won the shot put (60-4) and was fourth in the hammer throw (189-2).
Honors: All-SCC, 2021 SCC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. Off the track: Honor student.
BRETT DUMAIS
Foran, Senior
Stats: At the SCC dual meets, he won the pole vault twice with heights of 12 feet, 6 inches and 11-6. He also finished in 9.46 and 9.45 in a pair of 55 hurdles events.
Honors: All-SCC, captain for cross country, indoor track and outdoor track as a senior.
Off the track: National Honor Society, St. Michael’s CABE Student Leadership Award, Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout.
Up next: Plans to study aeronautical engineering at a yet-to-be-determined college.
JASON LORENT
Shelton, Senior
Stats: At the SCC dual meets, he won the 55 dash (6.47) and won the 300 (35.94).
Honors: AllSCC.
EAMON SWEENEY
Haddam-Killingworth, Senior
Stats: At the Shoreline Conference North meet set personal bests winning the high jump (6-0) and 55 hurdles (8.15). Also ran a leg of the winning 4x400 relay.
Off the track:
Volunteers for various food drives and toy drives.
Up next: Will attend University of Maine-Orono.
ALEX USHCHAK
Xavier, Sophomore
Stats: At the SCC dual meets, he won the 3200 in 9:50.20 and finished in 4:43 in the 1600, both personal bests. Honors: All-SCC.
Off the track: High honor student and member of the Ambassadors Club.
JOSHUA BACON
Fairfield Prep, Senior
Stats: At the SCC indoor dual meets, won the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 2 inches.

NICHOLAS CASSARINO
Xavier, Sophomore
Stats: At the SCC dual meets, won the 1000 (2:39.10) and finished 4:41 in the 1600.
Honors: All-SCC.
Off the track: High honor student, CMEA All-State Connecticut Concert Band (trumpet) and volunteers for the Middlefield Housing Authority.
MATT JENNINGS
Haddam-Killingworth, Senior
Stats: At the Shoreline Conference North meet ran legs of the winning spring medley relay and 4x400 relay, contributing to the Cougars’ team title.
Off the track: High honor student, Haddam-Killingworth student representative on RSD 17 Board of Education.
Up next: Will compete at Yale.
NIKITA OMELCHENKO
Wilbur Cross, Junior
Stats: At the SCC dual meets, won the 1000 (2:40.52), won the 600 (1:28.67), won the 3200 (10:24.38) and won the 1600 (4:58.40). His SCC 600 time was the fastest this past season. Also holds personal bests for 1600 (4:42.12) and 3200 (10:06).
Honors: All-SCC. Off the track: National
Honor Society.
Up next: Hopes to compete at a yet-to-be-determined college.
LUCA TROOP
Westbrook, Senior
Stats: At the Shoreline Conference South meet he won the 300 (38.70), ran a leg of the fourth place 4x200 relay and was fifth in the 55.
Honors: All-Shoreline Conference.
Off the track: National Honor Society, CIAC Male Scholar Athlete, plays trumpet, member of Westbrook Jazz Band and Ensemble Band and theater, has also played soccer and basketball.
JACKSON WARTERS
Law, Junior
Stats: At the SCC dual meets, he won the 55 hurdles twice with times of 8.17 and 8.30. Finished 39.27 in the 300 and 7.06 in the 55.
Honors: All-SCC.
Off the track: He has a 4.9 GPA in the classroom, participates in the Model UN club and created the Spikeball Club. Has over 200 hours of community volunteer hours for many organizations including Milford Historical Society and Help Our People events.
EAMON BURKE
Xavier, Junior
Stats: At the SCC dual meets, he won the 1600 (4:25.83) and finished 2:38 in the 1000. At the Meet of Champions in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in the Emerging Elite Division he was third in the 2 mile (9:18.41).
Honors: All-SCC. Off the track: Member of the Recycling Club.
DEVIN CUE
Hillhouse, Senior
Stats: At the SCC dual meets, he won the 55 dash (6.63) and the 300 (37.71). He also won the long jump jump at the Sunset Dual meet against Derby, with a jump of 20-4, a personal record.
Honors: All-SCC.
AIDAN LAW
Haddam-Killingworth, Junior
Stats: At the Shoreline Conference North meet won the long jump (18-8), finished 5-4 in the high jump and ran a leg of the winning 4x200 relay.

KEYANDRE SMITH
Hillhouse, Junior
Stats: During the SCC dual meets, he won the high jump with a height of 5 feet, eight inches and 5-10. He also competed in the 100 (13.73) and 200 (25.67). Honors: All-SCC.
Off the track: Boys Scouts of America and also plays football. He competes for Hillhouse but attends New Haven Academy.
COACH OF THE YEAR TRAVIS GALE
Wilbur Cross
Stats: Gale, in his seventh season as head coach, said the season was very interesting due to the COVID-19 guidelines, the impact of the weather and usage of the Floyd Little Athletic Center. “I am so proud of the student-athletes, the work they put in, the juggling of school, indoor track and the pandemic,” Gale said. “I am very excited for their future.” The Governors’ top performers were Devin Cue, Nikitia Omelchenko, Jaquan Johnson, Margo Pederson, Nyia White, and Anna Omelchenko. “Those six athletes met the challenge head on and had a very successful season,” Gale said.
Honors: 2021 SCC Coach of the Year for boys and girls, three-time Register All-Area in both cross country and indoor track.
