Elizabeth Frey Clark
“Dibbie”
Elizabeth Frey Clark “Dibbie” passed away in her sleep on February 12, 2022 at home in Hamden, CT. She was born on May 11, 1940 in Philadelphia to Frank Gustave Frey and Charlotte Cleaves Mayo. She was a member of the class of 1958 at the Springside School in Chestnut Hill, PA. She graduated from Bennett College, Millbrook, NY in 1960 and taught at Potomac School in Washington DC. In 1962 she met Sydney P. Clark, Jr., a professor of Geology and Geophysics at Yale University; they were married in 1963 and began their married life with a year-long sabbatical in Canberra, Australia, which initiated their shared love of travel.
Dibbie will be remembered for her high energy and varied interests. She enjoyed yoga and aerobics classes, and took her therapy dog, Sparky, to numerous retirement communities until the pandemic began in 2020. She loved to entertain, garden, travel, craft, bake and celebrate the holidays, particularly Christmas. Christmas was a very special time of year for her because there were plenty of opportunities for family gatherings, baking, and displaying her collections of Wendt & Kühn Angels and Nativity scenes. For many years, Christmas was spent in Bermuda with parents, uncles, aunts, and children. During her drawnout illness, she was able to maintain strong and meaningful friendships. Above all, Dibbie was a loving wife, mother and grannie.
Dibbie is predeceased by Syd, her husband of 53 years. She is survived by children Edward (Ted) Clark of Canton, CT; Jordan Clark (Dorothy Pak) of Goleta, CA; Elizabeth (Lisa) Clark of Brookfield, CT; and Christina (Christie) Clark (Michael O’Hare) of New York, NY; and grandchildren Emily, Rachel, Isabel, Rebecca, Margaret, Logan, Daniel, Malachy, and Lleyton. Service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Church of Christ, Meeting House Lane, Woodbridge, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Franciscan Home & Hospice Care of Meriden (franciscanhc.org). For additional information or to send condolences, please visit www.beecherandbennett.com.
