Joan LaFontaine June 12, 1934 - June 25, 2022

Joan LaFontaine passed away on June 25th at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart, Florida with her family by her side. Mrs. LaFontaine was born on June 12, 1934, in Newark, New Jersey to Catherine Lynch Freed and Samuel Freed. The family later settled in West Haven, Connecticu­t. Joan attended St. Lawrence School and later graduated high school from Laurelton Hall. Joan married Lou LaFontaine with whom she celebrated 65 years in marriage in May. Through his long career with United Technologi­es, Joan and Lou traveled around the world including memorable visits to Africa, Switzerlan­d, Paris, and Australia.

Joan loved spending time with her family and friends; she especially enjoyed attending her children and grandchild­ren’s sporting events where everyone could hear her cheering. She was known for her contagious laugh that naturally prompted everyone to laugh along with her. Her spirit and love will be missed.

Besides her husband Lou, Joan leaves behind her daughter Kathryn Murray (Scott Augur) and son Mark LaFontaine (Darlene), grandchild­ren Patrick Murray and Sam, Lucy, and Danny LaFontaine, as well as great granddaugh­ter Lyla Ann Murray. Joan was predecease­d by her brothers John and Richard Freed and sister Deborah Shailor.

Calling hours will be on Friday, July 29th from 5 – 7 pm at W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 N. Main St. Branford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, July 30th at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary Church of St. John Bosco Parish, 731 Main St. Branford, CT.
