Alfred S. Mezzatesta, age 89, entered into eternal rest on August 7, 2022, at Griffin Hospital in Derby. He was the beloved husband of sixty-five years to Anna DiClementi Mezzatesta. Alfred was born in Ansonia on November 1, 1932, son of the late Salvatore and Amelia Romano Mezzatesta. A lifelong resident of Ansonia, Al was employed in quality control at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford for forty-two years until his retirement. He also worked part time at the former Little Red Shoe House in Ansonia, the Evening Sentinel, Friendly’s Restaurant in the old Ansonia Mall and Jerry’s Driving School in Ansonia. A proud veteran, he honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict in the 25th Infantry Division, 8th Army. Alfred was a communican­t of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Italy, listening to Andrea Bocelli along with other Italian music and ballroom dancing. Al was an avid fan of Ansonia High School Football, the New York Yankees, the New York Giants and UCONN Basketball. In addition to his wife Anna, he leaves to cherish his memory, daughters, Catherine LaRovera and her husband Carl LaRovera Sr. and Barbara Sobolisky and her husband Robert Sobolisky of Ansonia; grandchild­ren, Carl A. LaRovera Jr. and his wife Kristen LaRovera of Ansonia, Alicia LaRovera (Frank Devine) of Norwalk, Brooke, Robert and Bridget Sobolisky of Ansonia and great-grandsons, Jackson Thomas LaRovera and Anthony Michael LaRovera. He was predecease­d by his brother, Samuel Mezzatesta. Alfred’s funeral service and burial will be private and at the convenienc­e of the family.
