New Haven native featured on Lifetime dating show

-

Scrolling on TikTok led a New Haven native to try to find “the one” on Lifetime’s new social experiment show, “5 Guys a Week,” airing Thursday.

Rebecca Seidemann was scrolling through TikTok after having a stressful day when she came across an ad saying, “If you are from the Northeast and single, submit an application for this show.” At first, she was not interested, but she did leave a comment that led to her applying.

“The comment said, ‘The tension between me doing this,’ and they replied with, ‘Just do it,’” she said. “I ended up submitting a two-minute video for the application and they reached out to me the next day.”

Lifetime’s “5 Guys a Week” is based on the U.K. series of the same name, and each episode of the TV show features a “leading lady” who picks five eligible bachelors to move into her home for the week, in the hopes of finding “the one.”

“This reminded me of ‘The Bachelor’ franchise,” she said. “The process was less stressful than I thought.”

Seidemann, 25 at the time, was looking for a new father figure for her pet ferrets after breaking up with their “father.” She said she was looking for someone who could make her laugh and that she can tell a lot about a person by their sense of humor, which she believes tied down to kindness and intelligence.

“Let’s not forget about the bare minimum: people who are respectful,” she said. “I am very anxious about my space and was worried about them reading my diary or touching my stuff but they were well behaved,” she said.

Seidemann is currently a student at the University of Michigan studying social work. She applied to the university during filming and said she hopes to do a clinical study specializing in suicide prevention.

She is not the first Connecticut native to appear on the show. Alyssa Jimenez, a single mother from the New Haven area, was on episode 6 looking for “the one.”

“5 Guys a Week” airs Wednesdays and Thursdays on Lifetime.
