Elliot Hankin, died on August 29th in Bridgeport, CT. Elliot was born on October 8, 1947 to Henry and Ida Hankin of Pool Rd. in North Haven, CT. He was the first of 3 children. The family originally came from Minsk, Belarus, on his father’s side and from Vilna, Lithuania, on his mother’s side. He left us suddenly on Monday evening, August 29th from his home in Bridgeport, CT, due to heart issues.

Elliot attended and graduated from Quinnipiac University in New Haven, 1965-1970 with a BS degree in Microbiolo­gy and then began an internship at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT in 1970 in Diagnostic Medicine, where he remained until retirement.

In addition to his medical skills, Elliot was also quite an advanced culinary personage, who loved both French and Italian cuisine and mastered both of those arts. He studied under Barbara Decker Egbert from LaVarenne, Paris and won a cooking competitio­n hosted by famed Chef Jacques Pepin in New Haven, CT a few years back.

He was an avid lover of Opera and the arts over the years and became personally acquainted with famed Opera Star, Montserrat Caballe and was invited to her home in Spain on one occasion. He was also a follower of the career of Aaron Caruso, an upcoming and talented Italian Tenor. He loved other cultures and traveled to England, France, Spain and Italy. Locally, he supported BACCIO, a Bridgeport area Italian cultural organizati­on founded by Ex-Mayor, Leonard S. Paoletta.

He was a lover of animals and rescued many many cats in the Bridgeport area to have them inoculated and neutered and adopted. And he supported many local animal rescue programs.

Elliot was predecease­d by his parents Henry and Ida and his brother Howard. He is survived by his younger brother Michael Hankin, now living in New Haven, CT and also by his best friend, Stephen Kelsey, who assisted and cared for him in his later years. Elliot was a good and generous and loyal friend to many and he will be sorely missed.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday afternoon, September 7 at 1:00 o’clock at B’nai Jacob Memorial Park, 200 Wintergree­n Ave., New Haven, CT. The Robert E.
