Carol Murphy Rogers, 88, of Wallingford, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022 at the Masonicare Health Center surrounded by family. She was the loving wife of Charles A. Rogers.

Carol was born in New Haven on September 12, 1933 and grew up in the Cedar Hill Avenue neighborhood. She was a daughter of the late John T. and Ann (Fitzgerald) Murphy. She graduated from Wilbur Cross High School in 1951 and went on to receive a BS in Sociology from Albertus Magnus College in 1955, after which she pursued graduate studies in literature at Southern CT State University. She was a longtime resident of Wallingford, residing most recently in Ashlar Village.

After many years as a homemaker, raising her children and getting all of them started in school, she embarked on a 20+ year career in Durham and for Regional District #13, first as an interim librarian at Durham high school, and then as the Executive Assistant to the Superintendent of Schools and the Secretary to the Board of Education. She was a talented writer, something she enjoyed immensely and was known for throughout her life, whether she was writing a newspaper article for work, composing a speech, or creating a reminiscence for her grandchildren. A note or letter from Carol was one you would tuck away in your drawer to revisit time and again.

As a young woman, she was an active member of the Wallingford Junior Women’s Club. Throughout her adult life she expressed her faith, first, as a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, and later, of the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

In retirement, she and her husband, Charlie, traveled extensively, cruising in the Caribbean and touring Europe. Together they enjoyed the warmth of their home in Winter Haven, FL during the cold weather months.

More than anything, Carol loved and cherished her family, which gave her life its greatest meaning. And she bonded them together in a way that will live far beyond her time on this earth.

In addition to her husband of 65 years, Carol is survived by her children, Charles A. Rogers Jr. and his wife, Suzanne, Carolyn Rogers and her wife, Mary Deshon, and Steven T. Rogers and his wife, Sharon; her cherished grandchildren, Evan and Meghan Ward, Glenn, Ryan, Caitlin, Sean and Sarah Rogers; great-grandchildren, Jayanth and Kairav Rogers, and Miles Ward Allen; her devoted siblings, Joan Clifford, and Steven Murphy; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Robert and Gerald Murphy.

The family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to the Masonicare Health Center staff on 2-Wooster, to Masonicare Hospice, and special thanks to social worker, Gail Kallinich. You all provided Carol with loving comfort and care in life and at the time of her death. Words cannot express our gratitude.

Carol’s family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., on Friday, Sept. 9th, from 9-10:30am when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am. Interment will be private in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Gifts in her memory may be sent to the Masonic Charity Foundation, 22 Masonic Ave., Wallingford, CT 06492.
