Sacred Heart runs past Norfolk St.
Malik Grant rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown to lead Sacred Heart to a 31-14 win over Norfolk St. on Saturday in Fairfield.
The Pioneers grabbed a pair of seven-point leads in the first half on touchdowns from Kenneth Womack and Marquex McCray and led 17-14 at halftime.
Grant's score came in the third quarter to extend the lead for Sacred Heart (3-2), while Robert O'Donnell returned an interception for a touchdown in the final quarter to seal the game.
Norfolk St. remained winless at 0-5.
New Haven 21, Saint Anselm 10: At Manchester, N.H., Christopher Ais rushed for 186 yards and a touchdown to lead the Chargers to an NE-10 conference win.
Ais also caught a touchdown pass for UNH (4-1), while quarterback Connor Degenhardt added a 20yard touchdown run in the final quarter.
Saint Anselm fell to 4-1. Assumption 28, SCSU 14: At New Haven, Tylon Papallo had 106 yards on four catches including a touchdown, but the Owls dropped their fifth in a row.
Tim O'Shea also had a touchdown reception for SCSU 0-5 (0-3 NE-10). Four different player scored for Assumption (3-1, 2-0 NE-10).
St. Francis 39, CCSU 13: At Loretta, Pa., Cole Doyle threw two touchdown passes and St. Francis of Pennsylvania ran for three touchdowns to win its home opener.
St. Francis has won three straight, its first three three-game win streak since 2016.
Alex Schmoke kicked a 24-yard field goal to put St. Francis in front for good four minutes into the game and the Red Flash added a first-quarter safety when Central Connecticut snapped the ball over the head of its punter. Dole hit Makai Jackson with a 29yard touchdown pass to take a 12-0 lead early in the second quarter but threw a pick-six just before halftime when Luquay Washington returned an interception 41 yards for the Blue Devils' only score of the first half.
Doyle completed 7 of 11 passes for 76 yards. The ground game rushed 44 times for 141 yards as St. Francis (3-2, 2-0 Northeastern Conference) led time of possession 33:03 to 26:57.
Shon Mitchell completed just 16 of 38 pass attempts for 188 yards and was picked off twice for Central Connecticut (0-5, 0-2).
Wesleyan 49, Hamilton 14: At Clinton, N.Y., Chase Wilson and Logan Tomlinson had two touchdown receptions apiece as the Cardinal rolled to a victory.
Quarterback David Estevez threw for a pair of touchdowns and ran for another as Wesleyan improved to 2-1 (2-1 NESCAC). Hamilton fell to 1-2 (1-2).
Trinity 20, Amherst 3: At Amherst, Mass., Hunter Tully had an interception return for a touchdown in the Bantams' win.
DeVante Reid added a receiving touchdown for Amherst (3-0), while the Bantams's defense held Amherst to 175 total yards.
Norwich 31, Coast Guard 23: At Northfield, Vt., Trevor Chase caught three touchdown passes as Norwich outlasted the Bears.
Broock Desta had 123 yards receiving and two touchdowns for Coast Guard (2-3). Norwich improved to 2-3.
