New Haven defense helps shut down Pace

New Haven held Pace scoreless through three quarters and rolled to a 35-7 Northeast-10 Conference football win on Saturday in West Haven.

Quarterbac­k Connor Degenhardt tossed three touchdown passes for the Chargers (5-1, 4-0 NE-10), while Hunter Cobb and Christophe­r Ais added rushing touchdowns.

Teddy Harper scored the lone touchdown for Pace (3-3, 1-2) with less than 4 minutes remaining on an 11-yard pass from Carlton Aiken.

Brown 27, CCSU 20: At New Britain, Jake Willcox threw two touchdown passes, the Brown defense made a huge stop inside the 10 in the final minute, and the Bears defeated Central Connecticu­t.

Bryant 56, SCSU 10: At Smithfield, R.I., Zevi Eckhaus threw for 310 yards and four touchdowns as the Bulldogs beat the Owls.

Bryant (2-4) backup Gage Moloney came on in relief of Eckhaus and threw for two touchdowns on 6-for-7 passing. Eckhaus — who was 25 of 35 — and Moloney completed passes to 11-different receivers.

Bryant outgained Southern Connecticu­t 623-286 in total yardage.

Marc Reali threw for 207 yards for the Owls.

WCSU 34, Plymouth St. 27: At Plymouth, N.H., John Giller threw for 327 yards and three touchdowns as WestConn handed Plymouth State its first loss of the season.

Wesleyan 31, Colby 14: At Middletown, the Cardinal outscored the Mules 28-0 in the second quarter to put away.

Trinity 45, Hamilton 0: At Hartford, the Bantams held Hamilton to just 140 yards of total offense in pitching a shutout.

Springfiel­d 49, Coast Guard 6: At New London, David Wells rushed for 122 yards and a pair fo touchdowns to lead the Pride pst the Bears.

MEN’S HOCKEY

Quinnipiac 4, Boston

College 0: Graduate students Zach Metsa, Ethan de Jong and Michael Lombardi scored three of the four Quinnipiac men's hockey goals Friday night, as the seventh-ranked Bobcats rolled to a 4-0 victory over Boston College in their season opener.

De Jong added an assist for a two-point game, while Jacob Quillan had two assists.

Yaniv Perets recorded the 12th shutout of his career, stopping all 16 BC shots.

The Bobcats open their home schedule on Sunday when they play host to LIU at 2 p.m. at M&T Bank Arena. UConn 4, Union 1:

Sophomore Chase Bradley scored a goal and added an assist, and East Haven’s Nick Capone scored a goal to lead the Huskies in their home opener. UConn, 3-0, has scored three or more goals in each of its first three games.

Hudson Schandor and Jake Percival also scored for the Huskies.

UConn plays host to Union (1-1-1) Sunday at 4:05 p.m.

UConn outshot the Dutchmen 37-16 and finished the evening 2-2 on the penalty kill.
