Richard “Ricky” A. Hawkins, 67, of West Haven, died on October 11, 2022, after a brief illness. Born in New Haven on February 8, 1955, a son of the late William and Claire (DePalma) Hawkins. Survived by sisters loving Debra (Richard) Mento and Patricia (Daniel) Dellaripa; brothers William F. Hawkins Jr. and Robert J. ( Jennifer) Hawkins and sister-in-law Merri Hawkins; nephews William III, Robert Jr., and Joseph Hawkins, Daniel Mento, and Michael Dellaripa; nieces Kimberly ( Joseph) Savoia and Bryanna Dellaripa; as well as two beloved grandnieces.

Ricky was a devoted employee of Yale University for over 35 years; all the while, his favored building on campus being the Sterling Memorial Library. The intersection for his love of the ocean combined with his service mindedness took place on the West Haven beaches, whereby he proudly served for many years as a part-time constable. In later years, Ricky maintained a devotion to his community by volunteering as a member of security within his dwelling place, bringing joy and light to the other residents. A phenomenal bowler, he held numerous awards and medals for his skill recognized by the West Haven Team of Special Olympics. For Ricky, happiness was captured by many things, such as engaging with a fellow, his passion for classical music, or his unending love for animals. Chief among them, however, was with a cup of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee in his hand. He will be remembered as a kind and happy soul, one always smiling, and quick to make a new friend with his ‘hello.’

Arrangements have been entrusted to West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. Funeral Services will be private at this time. You may offer an online condolence by visiting www.westhavenfuneral.com
