Bruce Addison Hawes, of Hickory, NC, died Wednesday, October 26, 2022. Born March 19, 1941, in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Julia Mae (Wicks) Hawes and Addison Sanger Hawes. Bruce will be remembered for his wicked humor, fiery temper, and service to others. He was a member of the Milford Riders Motorcycle Club for many years and is still considered a legend by many local riders to this day. His love of nature, travel, and Lake Zoar was known to all. Bruce had a deep love for animals and was known to generously feed birds, squirrels, groundhogs, raccoons, skunks, and the plethora of wildlife who learned to associate the sound of his window opening with a free meal. He will be truly and deeply missed. He was preceded in death by his brother, Roger B. Hawes; sister Judy M. Papale; his granddaugh­ter, Hayden V. Griffith; and his son-in-law, Theodore Parr. Bruce is survived by his son Bruce A. Hawes ( Jacqueline) of Beacon Falls, CT, daughter Lane K. Griffith (Dan) of Vale, NC, and daughter Kimberly M. Parr (Travis Chase, fiancé) of FL. He also leaves ten grandchild­ren: Corrine, Kodi, and Skylar Hawes; Chandler DeStefano (Matthew), Jonah (Alexis), Samuel, and Noah Griffith; and Devin and Drew Parr; his brother Addison S. Hawes (Peggy) and sister Sheila E. Dion (Douglas); and extended family. A memorial service will be held next summer at Riverside Community Church in Oxford, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in his memory to the Catawba Humane Society, 3224 20th Ave. SE, Hickory, NC 28602.
