Ellen M. Shea Lye, 76, of Hamden passed away peacefully on Sat., Dec. 24, 2022 at the Whitney Manor in Hamden. Survived by her beloved sons, Leonard F. Lye III and wife Leida of East Haven and Michael J. Lye and wife Susan of Hamden, cherished grandchild­ren, Elyssa, Jake and Ryan Mikolajcza­k, and Bryanna, Matthew, Alessia and Michael Lye, loving sister Diane Shea Bragdon of Annapolis, MD, a devoted cousin Marian McCarthy of Hamden and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predecease­d by a sister Carol Shea, her stepmother Natalie Shea and her former husband Leonard F. Lye II. Ellen was born Aug. 12, 1946 in New Haven a daughter of the late James P. and Eleanor McGowan Shea and after her mother died, she was raised by several aunts and uncles in the area. She was a graduate of the former St. Mary’s High School in New Haven and then earned her RN degree from the Hospital of St. Raphael School of Nursing. She worked for over thirty years at the Hospital of St. Raphael Emergency Room and then worked in the office of Dr. Michael Mankus in Hamden. Her faith and her family were most important to her, and she was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Hamden. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Maine and Ireland and was a follower of all Yale sports. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thurs., Jan. 5, 2023 at 10:00am in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, Hamden. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hamden. Calling hours at Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden will be Wed., Jan. 4, 2023 from 4:00-7:00pm. Per family request, MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED AT THE FUNERAL HOME AND CHURCH.
