Roaslind “Jackie” O’Brien
Rosalind ( Jackie) Franco O’Brien entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 13th surrounded by her loving family. Jackie was born August 6th, 1925 in Derby. She was the beloved wife of Francis O’Brien. She was predeceased by her parents, Ralph and Madeline (Russo) Franco, brothers Pasquale “Tarzan” Franco, Ralph “Fuzzy” Franco, and by sisters Theresa Franco, Viola SanAngelo and Mary “Slim” Knowlton. Jackie graduated from Derby High School and St. Vincent’s School of Nursing as a registered nurse and continued her education through Central CT State University, earning her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. She was a registered nurse at Griffin Hospital in Derby and at the office of Jack Galen before becoming the first school nurse at Emmett O’Brien Technical High School in Ansonia. She retired as a school nurse and from the State of Connecticut after 35 years and then continued to substitute as a nurse at schools in the area. She loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; which were her pride and joy. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Kim (Michael) Marchitto, her daughter Susan (Bob) Ignatowski, her grandchildren Jaclyn Thompson, Alicia (Shawn) Andrews, Lauren (Drew) Hill, Kevin (Melissa) Marchitto and Mark (Sara) Marchitto. She also leaves her seven cherished greatgrandsons and 3 cherished great-granddaughters as well as many nieces, nephews, and good friends. Friends are invited to go directly to St. Mary Church, 253 Elizabeth St. Derby, on Monday January 16 at 10 AM for her Mass of Christian Burial. Directly following, the burial will be held at Mt. St. Peter Cemetery, Derby. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Spooner House, 30 Todd Rd. Shelton, CT 06484, or to Storm Ambulance Corps Co., 151 Olivia St. Derby, CT 06418.
